Whole Wheat Oatmeal Chocolate Chip Cookies

Ingredients:

  • ½ cup butter
  • ¼ cup honey
  • 1/3 cup unsweetened applesauce
  • ¼ cup brown sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1½ cup oats
  • 1 cup whole wheat flour
  • ½ tsp baking soda
  • ¼ tsp salt
  • ½ cup chocolate chips (optional)
  • 2 scoops collagen (optional)

Directions:

  1. Preheat oven to 350. Line cookie sheets with foil or lightly grease.
  2. Mix together butter, honey, applesauce and sugar in the bowl of a stand mixer or with an electric mixer. Beat in egg and vanilla extract.
  3. In a separate bowl, whisk together oats, flour, baking soda, salt and collagen. Add dry ingredients to wet ingredients and stir to combine. Stir in chocolate chips.
  4. Mold dough balls onto cookie sheet. Bake for 8 minuets or until edges just start to turn golden.
  5. Let cookies cool and enjoy!

You know when you try to make something healthy and it turns out tasting “too healthy”? I can assure you these whole wheat oatmeal chocolate chip cookies are healthyish and delicious!

Oatmeal chocolate chip cookies are one of my top favorites treats. I created this recipe because I wanted a soft, gooey delicious fiber packed snack. I like to get a least a little nutritional benefit out of my desserts and this one hits the spot. This healthy alternative cookie is by far the best whole wheat flour recipe I have ever made!

Whole Wheat Cookie Nutrition Info:

Oats: Oats contain some unique nutrients including the soluble fiber beta-glucan and antioxidants. Benefits of oats include lower blood sugar and cholesterol levels, protection against skin irritation and reduced constipation.

Whole wheat flour: is a rich source of fiber, vitamins, minerals and even a little bit of protein! The difference between white whole-wheat bread and regular whole-wheat bread is in the type of wheat used. White whole-wheat bread is made from white wheat, which lacks bran color. It also has a milder flavor and softer texture.

Applesauce: buy unsweetened, made from 100% fruit, great way to sweeten baked goods with some vitamin C!

Collagen: amino acid source, may be beneficial for skin, muscle function and is very bioavailable! For more info head to my blog post about the benefits of collagen.
